It does matter…..

I had to write this post while the tears are still welling up in my eyes. I don’t usually get too personal on here, because, well my writing can never quite capture what it is I’m trying to convey. I like to let the pictures to the talking, so to speak. However, I just posted an image onto Facebook of such an amazing moment between a mother and daughter on her wedding day. As I was taking the pictures, I had tears in my eyes (which happens soooo many times to me throughout a wedding day!) I just knew I was capturing something they would treasure forever. The bride posted this comment:

At times, when I get down, I think that what I do is so trivial. It’s not like I’m saving lives here. Sometimes I question my purpose in this career. However it’s moments like these and comments like the bride (Nikki) left for me that validate what I do. It does matter. I have been given a gift that allows me to capture the most intimate, precious times in peoples lives. Moments they may otherwise forget. Thank you, Nikki, for your kind words and thank you to all of my clients that trust me to capture moments like this for them. I am truly humbled every time someone trusts me with a task so great.

I Love…..{Central PA Wedding Photographers}

I’ve been wanting to make my blog a bit more personal this year, and one way I’d like to do this is by sharing with you the things that I love. These posts will be everything from favorite websites, to favorite shoes and favorite food, etc…. One of my newest obsessions on the internet is Pinterest. I love looking at design blogs online, and had a folder on my desktop to keep screenshots of ideas for my home and life. Then along came the geniuses at pinterest who created this amazing way to catalog and share all of your favorite things. One of the nicest things is that each image links back to the website it is from. 100% pure awesome. I will warn you though, you can seriously waste hours on this site! You can follow me here.

Craigslist Find {Central PA Wedding Photographers}

Ever since moving into our new home at the end of last summer, I’ve been obsessively scouring craigslist to find furniture. One item I was looking for in particular was a curved front dresser for in my living room. Finally a few weeks ago one showed up, and I immediately went out to take a look at it. It needs a bit of work, but I ended up purchasing it and couldn’t be happier! Before I brought it home, I had thought about painting it a peacock blue with a silver leaf top, but now I’m not so sure. I’ve started sanding it down (as you can see on the top two drawers in this picture) and I might end up keeping a natural wood look. The problem is, the veneer on top is not in the best shape, and it’s chipped off in some places on the drawers. What to do, what to do…..Here is a little preview of it as it is now.

I found the mirror at TJ Maxx, as well as the lamp. The conch shell I brought back from my first time snorkeling in Mexico last fall, the green 7up bottle is from a bottling plant my husbands family used to own, the blue mason jar was from my grandmother, and the peonies (one of my favorite flowers) are from my garden. I love incorporating items into the design of my home that hold meaning!

I took a closeup of some of the damage so you can see what I’m up against. If you have any experience working with damaged veneer, PLEASE clue me in! You can leave your advice in the comment section below. Thanks for reading!

Chicken Sausage and Orzo- Yum {Central Pa Wedding Photographer}

I love to cook. It’s just another creative outlet for me I guess, and I’m always looking for new recipes to try. I remembered reading this post from a friend’s blog and it sounded super yummy. However, when I went to the store I had forgotten my list at home so I had to do my best to try and remember what the ingredients were. I didn’t do too bad, but ended up experimenting on a new dish. And surprisingly it was pretty good! I thought I’d share the recipe with you since it’s been awhile since I’ve posted one.

1/2 of a large sweet onion, diced

1 green bell pepper diced

EVOO

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 cans fire roasted tomatoes

1/2 bag baby spinach

Small box of chicken broth (I get the reduced sodium/fat)

One box Orzo

Chicken Sausage grilled and cut into 1” slices (I got low fat Hillshire Farm)

Cook Orzo according to directions- I used chicken broth and water to boil it.

Sautee onions and peppers in EVOO until tender. Add in garlic and stir, then quickly add in tomatoes (the garlic will burn if let on the heat too long). Add in a little bit of chicken broth (start with 1/2 cup) then add in spinach and cook until wilted. I don’t really measure so you may need to add in more chicken broth as it cooks- use your judgement. Serve this over the orzo and you have yourself a meal! You can grate some fresh parmesan overtop, and I think next time I might add some tomato sauce into the mixture as well so the orzo is fully coated with a sauce. If you make it, let me know how it turns out!

I Passed!!! {Central PA Wedding Photographer}

Do you remember in my list of New Year’s resolutions, one of the items was becoming a Certified Professional Photographer? A few weeks ago I went and took the test. Oh man was I nervous, and it was definitely hard. I studied for months in preparation for the exam, and it paid off. I PASSED! I can’t even begin to tell you how good that feels. Now step two is submitting a portfolio of 20 images to a panel of Master Photographers to be judged. They’re looking for technical and artistic excellence. I can’t wait to pull together all of my images to submit. I know many photographers get rejected their first time around, but if I can pass the test on my first try then I’m determined to pass the judging! I’ll let you know just as soon as I’m officially a Certified Professional Photographer.

Big Top Cupcake: Fail {Central PA Wedding Photographer}

My baby boy turned 9 yesterday (although according to him he turned 10) This past weekend we went “home” to Williamsport to celebrate with our family, so I didn’t have much time to prepare a celebration for just our family on his birthday. My original plan was to order him a cake through my favorite bakery, Dingeldein’s in New Cumberland, PA. But then I had the genius idea of making him a cake myself. At first I had dreams of making a tiered cake complete with fondant cutouts so I headed over to Michael’s to buy the supplies (keep in mind this was Monday morning, the day of his birthday). Well I looked around for about 10 minutes and quickly realized there was no way I would be able to accomplish such a feat with my two “helpers” at home. I was just about to leave when I remembered he has always wanted me to buy the Big Top Cupcake mold, and lo and behold they actually had it there on clearance. I was quite excited as we headed to the grocery store to buy food for his birthday dinner (french toast) and a cake mix. Once we arrived at home I pulled everything out to make the cake, only to find I should have purchased two boxes of cake mix. I quickly looked up a cake recipe online so I could make enough batter, and of course I ended up running out of sugar before I got to the icing. For the first time ever, I had to call my neighbor to ask for a cup of sugar (Thanks Becky!). I looked up a trusty old buttercream recipe to make the icing. However, for some reason it just wasn’t turning out- it was like a liquid slop. I kept adding flour and powdered sugar hoping it would stiffen up, but as you can see, it didn’t. I resorted to coating the top with powdered sugar for the top.

Even though this is probably the worst looking Big Top Cupcake ever made, Brennan loved it. He had no idea anything was wrong

Watch out for the Poop Crab!

1. The first victim: batman 2. The sound the poop crab makes when attacking 3. Resting on a helpless victims head 4. Poor batman- he never gets a break
